At a District Assembly, the bro, was getting into it with his illustration about an octopus.
He repeated several times with great emphasis the notion that this octopus had 8 testicles.
a very reliable friend told me this: the bro was commenting on what was "unacceptable" conduct in the bedroom between married persons.
needless to say, he had everyone's attention.
he went on to say "we must avoid perversions such as oral and annual sex.

In considering whether to reject God, the Bible or just the dubs I have been thinking as follows.
1. There cannot be any dispute that even a cursory study of geology reveals the extreme age of life on Earth.Coal is not the product of recent plant growth.
Oil is not the product of recent marine life.
Limestone, a product of marine life, has massive age on its back.
2. The bible sets human life at about 4000 BC.
3. Jesus added his weight to the Adam, creation story
My conclusion.
Man has been around for a lot longer than 6000 years. The bible is absolutely untrustworthy as a literal text.
It all falls apart as inspired because Jesus ratifies the creation account.
The whole simple framework of original sin and the ransom collapses unless the creation story is true.
Lots of people here have varying degrees of faith in God and the bible but where is it reasonable to draw the line?
We are (mostly) united in our contempt for the WT interpretation of things but do we chuck out any faith in the Bible or God as a result?

Thanks Blondie, I can't believe the time and effort you put into this regular revue.
This para. got me mad, I don't know why, I should be used to it. We know the WT regularly misquote sources to their own ends. Here we have
a carefully abreviated scriptural quote. If you read Acts 17:11 the Beroeans were examining the bible daily yes. Why? They were checking "as to whether these things were so".
This encouragement to critical analysis of "new light" is outrageously swept out of the frame. We are directed to swallow unquestioningly whatever nonesense is spooned out. They look
us straight in the eye and dare us to challenge them. Here is the truth, today's edition, smile or walk away, on your own, into the wilderness. We will close the door behind you.
15 Peter did not fully understand what Jesus
said about eating His flesh and drinking
His blood. But the apostle relied on God
for spiritual enlightenment. When spiritual
light on some matter gets brighter, do you
try to understand the underlying Scriptural
reasons for the adjustment? (Prov. 4:18) The
first-century Beroeans received the word
“with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully
examining the Scriptures daily.” (Acts
17:11) Imitating them will deepen your appreciation
for your privilege to serve Jehovah,
to have him be your share.
So upbuilding!

Just a few random clips from the "organ" that God's own awganizashon is using. I feel sorry for the horses.
Soon, though, we were touching intimate body parts and experimenting with various sexual activities. When I was 15,
I started working and was approached by men on the job who wanted to go all the way with sex. I wanted to be daring and join my workmates in whatever they were doing. I wanted my associates to accept me, which in turn led to more and more sexual experimentation.”—SARAH, ?? AUSTRALIA.

i liked the greatest man book.
i thought it was very informative and unbiased.
a good summary of the gospels.. .
Sorry Quendi I should have read the thread better. On a commercial note, when the "Truth" book came out I got a carton at the assembly. You couldn't get them for love or money. I used to fish a few more out every day and come back with cash. I called it "blue gold".

Well, I thought the old TMS Guide book was brilliant as a hand book for those needing to become public speakers. I have often thought of stripping out the bible references and marketing it
as a teach yourself speaking/presenting manual. The replacement is overblown and is not a patch on the old "guide book". If there is one thing you mature students now seeking higher education
can thank dub-land for it is the ability to speak to an audience without soiling your underwear.
jehovahs witnesses going it alone for decades!.
today i uploaded a new article to my blog showing how jehovahs witnesses were left to go it alone for more than 40 years after watchtower deemed it sinful to accept transfusion of blood.
my article is titled jehovahs witnesses going it alone for decades and is available at: http://marvinshilmer.blogspot.com/2011/09/jehovahs-witnesses-going-it-alone-for.html .
I have two personal experiences.
1. I was with my wife whilst her sister was dying for the want of platelets in an intensive care unit in London. The poor woman was so short of this blood fraction that she was bleeding through her skin. I went to speak to the senior doctor and told her that our British head quarters was just up the road and I was sure that they would have some expertise to share to help. The Doctor was open to any help that could be suggested. There was no profesional pride or insult taken at the implication thay others, even laymen may be able to offer advice.
I went up to London Bethel and asked for any help from the accumulated experience and knowledge that they may have accumulated. The HLC had yet to be thought of. The answer: "all we have is what is in the literature". He then referred me to a witness that practised homeopathy, a branch of quackery that I view as praying on the vulnerability of the desperate especially that of impressionable witnesses.
I went to Bethel having full of hope and faith in the warmth and strenth of the organisation. I returned dissilusioned with the knowledge that I had received no help, not even sympathy or good wishes. The coldness and lack of empathy from these "brothers" that hold themselves up as the only source of love and support in this cruel world still shocks me.
2. Another close relative died after a major operation, the loss of blood prove too much and the poor lad succumbed. A member of the HLC stood by looking sheepish. He offered no advice, there was no specialist knowledge given to the doctors or nursing staff. He was as much use as a turd in baby bath. I think in hind sight that he was just there to ensure that tere was no back sliding, no sneaky transfusions.
The eighteen year old lad who had just started university had his life ahead of him, he was cut off before he even had chance to understand what life was all about.
In both cases one before, one after the HLC arrangement not a scintilla of help. We were on our own. Two members of our family gone to what?

a hard boiled journalist came out with a line: "A cynic is just an idealist with a broken heart"
That just about sums me up. Is that how you feel?
is it only me or do you think xmas in dubland is getting more and more celebratory.
lots of people get more food in, more booze in fact more of everything.. families get together, they have parties (not too big).
they have more to eat and drink than is good for them.
Is it only me or do you think Xmas in dubland is getting more and more celebratory. Lots of people get more food in, more booze in fact more of everything.
Families get together, they have parties (not too big). They have more to eat and drink than is good for them. They generally grumble when the meetings fall to coincide with the holiday dates.
The idea of going out door knocking on Christmas morning (previously thought of as one in the eye for Satan) is honoured by it's ommision. The only ones still feeling the pinch are the elders who have to go on thier
courses. They moan and complain abbout having to give up their holiday. In short although most dubs would be disgusted to put up a tree, decorate their houses or give presents they go as near as they can.
It seems to me that every facet of dub life and principles is characterised by half heartedness, two facedness. I think they are pleased about being outside the gift giving rituals, they are too mean to do it.
wt july 15, 2011 page 18 paragraph 15 "meddlers in other people's affairs".
it is not our right to tell others how to run their personal affairs'' anybody here ever been told to do something/how to do something by an elder or other jw?
in regards to job situation/family for example, with no direct scriptural backing...
Sorry for my ignorance but what is nappy hair?
